How to Install Google Sheets in PC and Work Offline

In this tutorial, you will learn how to install Google Sheets in PC. We will be able to use Google Sheets same as MS Excel. After we enable offline mode and install it in PC, we can use Google Sheets without the internet connection.

This basically contains 4 steps.

  1. Login to Google Sheets
  2. Enable or turn on Offline Mode
  3. Install Google Sheets as application
  4. Open the application and work offline

Login to Google Sheets

To use google sheets, you should have a google account. It is simple and free to create a google account. Open docs.google.com/spreadsheets in your internet browser and login with your account. I recommend using Google Chrome browser because Google Sheets and Chrome both application is developed by Google. However, you can use other browser too, the process is mostly similar. Here in this tutorial, we will look into doing this in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browser.

Enable or Turn on Offline Mode

Follow these steps to turn on offline mode.

Step 1. Click on three parallel lines beside the Sheets logo. (this activates side menu bar)

Step 2. Click on “Settings”

Step 3. In the “Settings” window, turn on the “offline” mode.

Step 4. Click on “Ok” button.

Note: Enabling the offline mode usually takes 1 to 2 minutes, wait until you see “Offline Setup Complete” at the bottom left corner of the screen.

Install Google Sheets in PC

The next thing you need to do is to install the application in PC. Follow below steps to do.

In Google Chrome Browser

Step 1. Click on 3 dots at the top right corner of your browser window.

Step 2. Click on “Save and Share”

Step 3. Click on “Create Shortcut”

Step 4. Check the “Open as new Window” box

Step 5. Click on “Create” button.

Installing Google Sheets as application in PC

Now, after completing all steps, a sheets logo will be created in Desktop.

In Microsoft Edge Browser

Follow the steps illustrated in below image for Microsoft Edge browser. (Enabling offline mode is same for any browser)

Open the Application and Work Offline

After successfully installing the application in PC, you can now open the application, open google sheets files and work offline. The changes you make in your file gets saved in your device and when internet is available, it synchronizes with the google drive.
